MAG is one of the new games to come out on the PS3 this year, its a game on its own for PS3 users with an interesting take, brought to by the creator of the SOCOM series
Team selection is a key component as you cannot change you team till level 60 and you can’t create a separate character on a separate PSN account.
Like with MW, you can level up. Levelling allows access to greater battles and responsibilities. For example, you start off in 64 player death matches and as you get experience you are able to gains access to other PNC’s and larger battles, up to 256 players by level 8. Similarly you can’t take on a leadership role till level 15, then gaining more responsibilities as you level from there.
Class selection is different this time round, instead of choosing your class, it is automatically chosen on the behaviour/style of play. However you all get the same skill trees to customise your character. Though wasting points on abilities you’ll never use can be costly so taking into consideration your class is vital in making a promising player.
MAG has 4 distinct modes of play, each having a set number of players, 32, 126, 256 and a set objective to achieve. There are only 3 maps per mode, each owned by one of the teams, so a similar attack and defend component it classed in all game play modes. All levels are slightly rigged to the defending team, which does make sense but can be a hassle with poor team mates. Even with the small number of maps, these maps are gigantic and several play throughs will be required before seeing it all.
MAG’s graphic are a little on the low side, understandable because this is a pure online game. With that comes some poor animation and the occasionally jumpy or floating player but lag is surprising low.
Overall this is a game that is taking a step in a new direction, with emphasis on teamwork to achieve your goals. Fans of MW2 online and really any FPS online games should check out this game, it has a great concept even if it can be a little rough around the edges at times but this may be the next thing in gaming.
