GameStop has faith in the PSPgo

GameStop has revealed that it has faith in the PSPGo and fully expects its sales to build up over time. Right now they are blaming the slow launch on Sony's lack of marketing impact which is focusing on a slow roll rather than major launch.

Despite a lukewarm reception from consumers, and reservations from UK retailers, US giant GameStop feels Sony's PSPgo has a bright future.

The retail firm told IndustryGamers that Sony's small launch marketing campaign shows Sony is expecting PSPgo sales to build over time.

"We clearly supported it in all of our stores," said EVP of merchandising and marketing Tony Bartel.

"I think that, by Sony's own admission, you can tell by the small marketing that was done for this, that their mentality was more of a slow roll than a major launch.

Like they had faith in the Ngage? They were big supporters of that as well, if I remember correctly.

yeah, ahaha, I remember at my eb games (canadian gamestop), the ngage had like, its own wall, and slowly overtime, they resorted to giving it a small side on the support pilar (picture a 4x10 foot display...)

I think the pspgo wont necessarily fail since its not even the second iteration of the psp. its still the first iteration so it wont fail all in all, but I definitely think itll either take too long to get popular, or it wont get popular at all

Can't say much about US or Canada but, I was looking at PSP's in Gamestation (UK store) the other day and the guy in there was pretty uninterested in the PSPgo. He would sell me a Slim and Lite or a PSP 3000 but, when it came to the go......he just dismissed it as 'the one that only plays downloadable things'. That and the fact that I'm yet to see a PSPgo in stores without having to actually search for it tells me that the UK retailers arent really all that interested in it at all. I cant say Ive even actually seen it advertised anywhere :S.

Good for GameStop for umm....having faith in the weird looking thing :P.

exact same thing down under, eb games and game traders really have a lack of interest in the product, the push the DSi out more than PSP's in general, dont think i've seen an add on tv either... looking like a major flop

in canada, they kinda advertise them the same. commercials of games will either have a psp or pspgo, kind of 50/50. they really push consoles, mainly ps3 and xbox 360, followed by wii pretty closely. I say this mainly because of the size of the sections they give them

I have to say I have been in gamestop a lot and no one pushed anything on me except new game releases for ps3 and 360. I don't even see a psp go section in the one i go to. I don't know I think it's going to die a lonely death, but then I could be wrong.

haha die a lonley death, i mean it'll still have the psp phat, 2000 and 3000 to die with :P

reckon if games were cheaper then it'll be more popular, $50 to fork out for a PSP game is not worth it considering the amount of time you actually play it to the quality of the game.. in most cases.
